The Association will host its first summer field trip on Aug 1, 2026, beginning at 11:00 am at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad Station in Cumberland, MD. We will board a steam locomotive for a 4.5-hour roundtrip to ride Frostburg, MD. We will visit the new Coal Miner’s memorial during a 90-minute layover in Frostburg (see description of the memorial in the June 2026 ATP).

To reserve a seat online, go to https://wmsr.com/frostburg-flyer and decide which car class you wish to ride (Coach, Lunch, Lounge, Dome, or 1309 Cab). As of this writing, adult prices range from $45-$130 for all but the 1309 Cab. Many cars—such as Lunch and Dome Class—have limited seating, so early booking is highly recommended. Be sure to select a seat on the train the departs at 11:30 a.m. on August 1, 2026. Note that Coach seating is not assigned. Those who wish to reserve a seat by telephone can call the WMSR at (301)759-4400. Boarding begins at 11:00 a.m. After you’ve booked your seat(s), send an email to [email protected] and let us know who will be attending so that we can look for you and gather for a photo. In the email subject line, enter “field trip.”
