Upper Canal Bike Ride: Cumberland to Big Slackwater

October 10 through 13

Bike four days, beginning in Cumberland on Friday, October 10 at 10:00 a.m. On Columbus Day, Monday, the group will bike to Big Slackwater and then return to Williamsport to meet a shuttle back to Cumberland.
Overnights will be in Paw Paw, Hancock, and Williamsport. Everyone pays their own expenses and reserves their own rooms from a suggested list. Campers may camp at Purslane Run Hiker Biker at Paw Paw, the bunkhouse at C&O Bicycle in Hancock ($15 & reservations required ) and finally should book a room at Williamsport.
For the full trip a return shuttle back to Cumberland will be $50 and limited to 12 people.
Anyone may join us for a day or part of a day, but will be responsible for their own transportation back to their vehicle whether they bike back or arrange someone to meet them. No ebikes for the shuttle unless 50 pounds or less and no fat tires.
All participants will print the C&O Canal Association’s Waiver form and bring it with them with the required signature and emergency contact information. No sag wagon. Reservations required. Limited number of riders. We ride 30 to 35 miles per day for 4 days. We’ll keep the pace at 9 to 12 mph, with the idea that this is a leisurely ride and trying to maintain 10 mph. Participants must be willing to accept instruction from ride leaders before and during the trip, and must come equipped with recommended bicycles and have clothing for warm, cold, and rainy weather.
